Carl Eugene Myers Jr.

Carl Eugene Myers Jr., 77, of Effingham, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with the Rev. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Carl was born on January 1, 1936, in Effingham, the son of Carl Eugene and Ruth J. (Goen) Myers Sr. He married Barbara Jean Garrett on March 31, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Effingham, and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2005.

Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church, Effingham. He worked as a switch operator for the Illinois Central Railroad and also for Mowe Moving Company in Effingham. After retirement, Carl volunteered at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham until his health no longer allowed. He was a hard working husband and father who always put others before himself. Carl was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.

Carl is survived by his sons, Randall “Randy” (Deanna) Myers of Effingham, Garrett “Gary” (Chris) Myers of Effingham, Jeffrey “Jeff” (special friend, Tammy Linton) Myers of Effingham, and Michael “Mike” (Roni) Myers of Newton; foster son, Paul Eatherton of Kinmundy; daughter-in-law, Theresa Myers of Effingham; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; daughters, Peggy Jolene Myers and Carla Jean Myers; son, Douglas Myers; great-grandchild, Addison Anderson; brothers, Dale and George; and sister, Nancy Bilskemper.
